{"id":240947,"date":"2022-10-20T14:29:28","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T21:29:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/?p=240947"},"modified":"2022-12-06T13:37:16","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T20:37:16","slug":"troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/blog\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop\/","title":{"rendered":"Troubleshooting FSLogix Issues In Azure Virtual Desktop"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This blog is a follow-up to my other blog, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/blog\/setting-up-fslogix-with-azure-virtual-desktop\/\">Setting up FSLogix with Azure Virtual Desktop<\/a>, <\/strong>for troubleshooting common issues I have seen when using FSLogix with AVD. I will include steps to resolve them and other troubleshooting methods you can use when you run into problems when implementing FSLogix in your AVD environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have installed the FSLogix client to your session hosts, if you navigate to <strong><em>C:\\Program Files\\FSLogix\\Apps\\, <\/em><\/strong>you will find a tool called <strong>frxtray<\/strong>. This tool uses a traffic light method for the profile status, and as you see below in my example, it has a <strong>yellow<\/strong> light notifying me &#8211; <strong>Profile status: Inactive &#8211; A local profile for this user exists on this system. <\/strong>This is true because, in this example, I am using a local admin user to log in to my session host. This tool is excellent for when you are first wanting to troubleshoot if FSLogix is working as it should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"959\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-image1.png\" alt=\"Troubleshooting FSLogix issues in Azure Virtual Desktop frxtray \" class=\"wp-image-240949\" srcset=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-image1.png 959w, https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-image1-480x179.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 959px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Working example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I log into my test user you can see that the <strong>profile status<\/strong> shows as <strong>active<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"291\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-profile-status-active-image2-1024x291.png\" alt=\"Troubleshooting FSLogix issues in Azure Virtual Desktop frxtray Profile Status\" class=\"wp-image-240950\" srcset=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-profile-status-active-image2-1024x291.png 1024w, https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-profile-status-active-image2-980x278.png 980w, https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/troubleshooting-fslogix-issues-in-azure-virtual-desktop-frxtray-profile-status-active-image2-480x136.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where Are FSLogix Logs Located?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have checked the <strong>frxtray<\/strong> tool and want to dive deeper into the FSLogix logs, you can find them by navigating to <strong><em>%ProgramData%\\FSLogix\\Logs <\/em><\/strong><em>or <\/em><strong><em>C:\\ProgramData\\FSLogix\\Logs. <\/em><\/strong>After the release of FSLogix 2009, ETL (Event Trace Logging) was implemented. This will create verbose trace logs .etl files. If you use Azure Files as I did in my blog example, you will need to assign your admin user with the RBAC role <strong>Storage File Data SMB Share Elevated Contributor <\/strong>rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure that the registry settings for FSLogix are correct in Regedit. If you don&#8217;t have this set up correctly, the <strong>VHDLocation <\/strong>FSLogix will not know where to store the user profiles. The <strong>frxtray<\/strong> tool will display a status message notifying you if that is the case making the <strong>frxytray<\/strong> tool very handy when troubleshooting issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The virtual network in Azure is properly configured, and when I see issues around this, it is because the Storage Account that is being used with FSLogix isn&#8217;t set up correctly in the networking section. So whether you are using a Private Endpoint or a specific virtual network, you must ensure that the network can communicate with FSLogix to allow everything to flow correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Profile Container Registry Configuration Reference<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I briefly went into the different registry settings you can use with FSLogix, and I highly recommend reviewing this Microsoft link below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/fslogix\/profile-container-configuration-reference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>FSLogix Profile Container registry configuration settings &#8211; FSLogix | Microsoft Learn<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/blog\/setting-up-fslogix-with-azure-virtual-desktop\/\">my previous blog<\/a>, one of my favorite registry settings to use with FSLogix is <strong>FlipFlopProfileDirectoryName, <\/strong>one of many registry settings that can improve your FSLogix implementation with AVD experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/contact-us\/\">Reach out<\/a> if you have any questions!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This blog is a follow-up to my other blog, Setting up FSLogix with Azure Virtual Desktop, for troubleshooting common issues I have seen when using FSLogix with AVD.
