The delimiter is tabbed, barred or others. DBeaver&#8217;s csv driver can be customized to handle these delimiters and I will show you how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Connecting to the delimited File<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Right-click your database connection (or anywhere if your connections are empty), click Create and then click Connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"531\" height=\"362\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_connection.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File connection\" class=\"wp-image-36988\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure the All tab is selected on the left and scroll down to CSV. Click Next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"562\" height=\"633\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_all_csv.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File all csv\" class=\"wp-image-36986\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click Browse\u2026 and select the folder where your csv file is that you saved from Excel. You&#8217;re selecting a folder here, not a file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"563\" height=\"635\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to-_delimited_File_select_folder.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File select folder\" class=\"wp-image-36985\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, to modify the settings, click Edit Driver Settings, then click the Connection properties tab in the lower half of the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_edit_driver_settings.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File edit driver settings\" class=\"wp-image-36989\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here you have several options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>charset &#8211; <\/strong>The character set of your data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>fileExtension &#8211;<\/strong> The extension of the file you&#8217;re trying to import.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>quotechar &#8211;<\/strong> The character used in text fields to denote strings, if it exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>separator &#8211;<\/strong> This is the delimiter used to separate columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>suppressHeaders &#8211;<\/strong> False to include Headers, True to exclude Headers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my example I am using a file called delimted_data.txt, the delimited character is a vertical bar | and I will have headers in the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"304\" height=\"199\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_example.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File example\" class=\"wp-image-36990\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Change the Connection Properties to match below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"492\" height=\"314\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_change_connection_properties.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File change connection properties\" class=\"wp-image-36987\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the properties are set, click OK and then click Finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point you can select the data from the file like you would any other imported data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"577\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_select_data.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File select data\" class=\"wp-image-36991\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re dealing with TAB delimited data, you can simply cut and paste a TAB from a text editor into the Connection Properties like below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"495\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Connecting_to_delimited_File_TAB_delimited_data.png\" alt=\"Connecting to delimited File TAB delimited data\" class=\"wp-image-36992\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re looking for other ways to import files into DBeaver, check out my other blogs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/postgresql-updating-data-using-csv-file-with-dbeaver\/\">PostgreSQL Updating Data Using CSV File with DBeaver<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/postgresql-excel-data-imports-using-dbeaver\/\">PostgreSQL Excel Data Imports Using DBeaver<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re not familiar with importing data using DBeaver, then I encourage you to view my previous blog here.
