We&#8217;ll also cover what to do in the event of a potential virus on a PC. We are using Webroot and MalwareBytes for our examples in our process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Symptoms:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain things you can look for or ask about are the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Slow computer performance (taking a long time to start up or open programs)<\/li><li>Problems shutting down or restarting<\/li><li>Missing files<\/li><li>Frequent system crashes and\/or error messages<\/li><li>Unexpected pop-up windows<\/li><li>New applications (toolbars, etc.) that appear without you downloading them<\/li><li>Overworked hard drive (the fan makes sounds and seems to be whirring and working hard when you aren&#8217;t doing much)<\/li><li>Emails that send autonomously from your accounts<\/li><li>Browser lag or redirects<\/li><li>Malfunctioning antivirus programs or firewalls<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Run heuristic virus scan on all drives:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This process can take hours depending on the amount of data on each drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open the SecureAnywhere interface by clicking the <strong>Webroot<\/strong> icon in the menu bar, then, from the drop-down menu, select <strong>Open Webroot SecureAnywhere<\/strong>.<br><br>The scan statistics display in the middle of the Protected window.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/SecureAnywhere-GUI_1.png\" alt=\"SecureAnywhere GUI\" class=\"wp-image-37752\" width=\"549\" height=\"260\"\/><figcaption><em>Fig 1.1 <\/em>SecureAnywhere GUI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To run a scan from the menu bar:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>From the menu bar, click the <strong>Webroot<\/strong> icon.<\/li><li>From the drop-down menu, click <strong>Scan My Compute<\/strong>r.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"283\" height=\"147\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/menu-bar_2.png\" alt=\"menu bar\" class=\"wp-image-37749\"\/><figcaption><em>Fig 1.2 <\/em>Menu bar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If SecureAnywhere locates threats, it opens a window that guides you through the quarantine process. For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.webroot.com\/us\/en\/home\/wsa_mac_userguide\/Content\/ScanningForMalware\/ManagingDetectedThreats.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Managing Detected Threats<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To run a scan from the main window:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Open the SecureAnywhere interface by clicking the <strong>Webroot<\/strong> icon in the menu bar, then, from the drop-down menu, select <strong>Open Webroot SecureAnywhere<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Click the <strong>Scan My Computer<\/strong> button.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"364\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Webroot-Console-GUI_re_3.png\" alt=\"Webroot Console GUI\" class=\"wp-image-37746\"\/><figcaption><em>Fig 1.3 <\/em>Webroot Console GUI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Managing Detected Threats:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If SecureAnywhere detects a threat or suspicious file, it prompts you to manage the item. Follow this procedure on how to manage any threats to your system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To manage detected threats:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>1. In the Results panel, review the list of file names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/result_panel_4.png\" alt=\"result panel\" class=\"wp-image-37751\" width=\"525\" height=\"364\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Do either of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keep the checkboxes selected, so items will be moved to quarantine.<\/li><li>Deselect any checkbox for which you recognize a filename and know that you need it to run an application.<br>For any items you deselect, SecureAnywhere restores them to their original locations.<br><strong>Note: Do not restore a file unless you are absolutely sure it is legitimate.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. On the bottom right of the window, click the <strong>Next<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/virtual-dba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/prepare_for_threat_removal_5.png\" alt=\"prepare for threat removal\" class=\"wp-image-37750\" width=\"548\" height=\"381\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note: It is recommended that you click the Next button to move all items to quarantine, where they are rendered inoperable. If you determine later that you need a file, you can restore it to its original location.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. On the Next Steps panel, click the Begin Threat Removal button. SecureAnywhere runs a follow-up scan again to make sure all threat traces are removed. If you cancel the scan, the main panel remains in a Threats Detected state and prompts you to run a scan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second Opinion:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Always good to have a second antivirus scanner available. (You can also do incremental scanning from a file\/folder level).
